Terryville

Waldemar "Wally" Ward, 71, of Terryville, passed away December 5, 2024, peacefully at the side of his significant other of 24 years, Melanie Adamowich.

Wally was born in Germany on October 6, 1953 the son of the late Harvey and Hannelore (Murth) Ward.

Fondly known to called Wally, this kind soul was a genuine person and friend in both heart and mind. He was loved and cared for as he pursued and achieved his life's purpose of perfecting his game of golf; especially for almost a decade of consistent club championship wins at Pequabuck Golf Club. Wally was a proud member of his commitment towards practicing/playing golf and served as Treasurer of the club. He was very proud of winning 3 club championships at Pequabuck in 2019.

Wally's 2-Fur Boys and Melanie will miss him dearly, but he lives on in our hearts forever.

He leaves a son, Jason and his wife Kelly, Granddaughter, Olivia of Vernon, Sister, Angelika Donavan of Watertown, Aunt Anna Darm of Naugatuct, Nephews and Nieces, and Significant other Melanie Adamowich of Terryville.

To the membership of Pequabuck Golf Club,

It is with extreme sadness and a heavy heart that I regret to inform all of you, the members of Pequabuck Golf Club of the passing of Waldemar “Wally” Ward on December 5th. Wally was a Pequabuck golfing legend, a consistently outstanding golfer whose excellence spanned a period lasting well over 30 years. His list of accomplishments be it club, city, senior or super-senior championships while impressive and too numerous to list here, pale by comparison to the character of the man. He was a soft spoken man, with an impish, Cheshire cat grin, and Popeye forearms. He was kind to a fault, a genuine, gentle human being and generous with well wishes for all! In all my years of knowing Wally, I never once heard him say an unkind word regarding anyone he met. He was a well-respected, invaluable member of the board of directors at PGC having served as Treasurer for multiple terms. His affable personality and hearty laugh permeated board meetings, as well as the clubhouse and the course and his demeanor endeared himself to his fellow board and golfing members alike. The magnitude of this loss will be felt by the membership for years to come, a void that cannot be filled, however, he is forever a part of Pequabuck golfing lore and for those that knew him his memory will best be served by the continuing stories that will be shared at the club for years to come! The pain of his passing, hopefully, with time will lessen, but I, for one, am a better person for having come to have known the man I affectionately referred to as “The Beav”.

Wally was the consummate gentleman on and off the course, gracious in victory and even more-so in those rare occasions when he experienced defeat, going out of his way to congratulate his opponent with heartfelt well wishes and a job well done! I would describe Wally as a grinder on the course, never giving up, whose search for perfection was the driving force for his success not only as a golfer but as an even better human being.

I remember a trip to Cape Cod to play golf. Wally, an astute investor, was sitting in the backseat as I drove. I asked him how he knew when the right time was to sell a stock. I was expecting a technical dissertation focusing on dividends or perhaps earnings per share and as I stared at him in the rear view mirror watched as he remarked with a big smile, “You know when I start to feel happy about a stock I know it’s time to get out and sell.” “You know happy, I can’t really explain it, just I feel happy, kind of warm all over and smile a lot.” He never elaborated on his answer, just left it at that, and, I guess, in many ways that best sums up the man, straightforward, matter of fact, what you see is what you get, no pretenses or hidden meanings, just genuine honesty.

Wally, you have holed that glorious last putt, and with your career round finished, your journey is complete. You will forever be missed by your Pequabuck golfing family but your golfing legend will continue to live on forever! You have left an indelible mark on us all and we are all the better for it! May you rest in peace, and Godspeed!
