Shirley Douma

Shirley Douma, 79, of Bristol, CT, passed from this life into eternity at 3:30 pm on February 20, 2016 with her brother Bill and his wife Paula by her side. She loved her family, Native American Indians, covered bridges, barns, fall leaves, collecting rocks and the sound of a babbling brook. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, William and Clara Douma, and three sisters, Rose Wentzel, Betty Douma and Henrietta Brown. She is survived by two loving brothers and their wives, William (Bill) and Paula Douma and Gerry and Marion Douma, her daughter, Sandi Bird Aldridge and her husband Tim Aldridge, three grandchildren, Troy Bird, his wife Rachael and their three children, Jedidiah Bird, and Zipporah Bird and her two children. Ms. Douma was and is deeply loved by her daughter who has the blessed hope of seeing her mother again in glory. A special thank you to Bill, Gerry, Fran (her niece) and her friend Sylvia for giving my mom such loving encouragement during the last few years. Per Ms. Douma's wishes, she will be cremated and there will be no public memorial service. The family requests that if anyone would like to share stories of their time knowing Shirley, that they email them to her daughter at sandi@sandibirdaldridge.com who will be compiling a memorial page for the family and friends.
