Pietro DiMatteo
Pietro DiMatteo, 90 of Bristol, beloved husband of Margherita (Morelli) DiMatteo, died peacefully, Tuesday, (December 23, 2008) at Bristol Hospital with his family by his side. Pietro was born December 9, 1918 in Alvignano, Italy, son of the late Nicola and Domenica (Pasquarelli) DiMatteo and was a long time resident of Bristol. Pietro retired from Bristol Springs in Plainville, in 1983. He enjoyed making home-made wine and his favorite hobby was his vegetable and flower garden. He loved to share his vegetables with his family and friends. His garden was admired by many and he was thrilled to have received an award from the Garden Club for the best vegetable garden in Bristol. He was a veteran of the Italian Army, serving during World War II. Pietro received much pleasure from his many visits of family and friends. We will miss the many stories he shared of his life. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Nicholas and Linda DiMatteo of Bristol. A daughter and son-in-law, Michelina and her husband Franco Pellino, of Alvignano, Italy. He is also survived by a brother, Paolo DiMattto, also of Italy. Four grandchildren, Pete DiMatteo and his wife Christine and her daughters, Sarah and Hillary and a very special great-grandson, Michael Nicholas DiMatteo, all from Monroe. His granddaughter, Natalie Strahowski and her husband Matthew of Plainville. Granddaughters Rosella and Antonella of Italy. In addition, many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends, along with his extended family, the DiVenere family. He was predeceased by his first wife, Rosina (Aceto) DiMatteo and beloved daughter Domenica DiMatteo. Calling Hours will be held at the Dunn Funeral Home, 191 West Street, Bristol on Saturday, December 27, 9-11 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 11:30 a.m. at St. Anthony Church, School Street in Bristol, Internment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
