Peter F. (Petey Buck) Gurgigno, Sr.
Mr. Peter F. "Petey Buck" Gurgigno, Sr., 81, of 56 Muzzy St., passed away peacefully surrounded by his family after a short illness at the Bristol Hospital on Monday, January 19, 2004. He was devoted to his loving wife of Miriam C. (Moquin) Gurgigno, for 62 years.
He was born in Bristol, CT on October 10, 1922 the son of the late Antonio and Rosaria (Villone) Gurgigno.
Those of us who were lucky enough to have known him were embraced by his generosity and big heart. Mr. Gurgigno was lifetime resident of Bristol and was a member of the West End Athletic Club and St. Anthony Church.
He was a Veteran of World War II serving in the US Army. Petey was employed by New departure Hyatt Division of General Motors for 30 years before he retired in 1975. He started a catering business and grinder shop well known throughout Bristol as "Petey Buck's Grinder Shop". He was famous for his back room, where he served just about everyone in Bristol with his "SURFRETT' and "5 CENT COFFEE". The family catering business was his real love. His food was enjoyed by countless families and organizations.
Most important to Petey were his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Not a day passed without Gramps thinking of one of us. He was always doing something for someone. If you needed anything, you knew where to go. His unselfishness was felt by all. We are deeply saddened by the loss of this extraordinary man. "He was a pearl without a price." He is already greatly missed by all.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Peter F. Gurgigno, Jr. and his wife, Roseann of Bristol; a daughter Joan Lindquist and her husband, Richard, of Bristol; two sisters, Concetta Schur of Bristol and Marguerite Heinimann of Newington; four grandchildren, Peter III and his wife, Jennifer, Jodi and her husband, Michael, Jason and his wife, Melissa, and Julie; three great-grandsons Peter IV, Michael and Daniel; several nieces and nephews.
Petey is predeceased by three brothers, Victor, Pasquale, Joseph "Joe Buck" and two sisters Filomena and Rose.
A military funeral will be held on Friday at 9:00 am from Dunn Funeral Home 191 West St., Bristol to St. Anthony Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bristol. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 PM.
