Maria R. (Sportelli) Lepore-Shappy
BRISTOL - Maria R. (Sportelli) Lepore-Shappy, 79, of 500 Stafford Ave., passed away Wednes-day, Jan. 17, 2007, at Bristol Hospital. She was born June 16, 1927, in Bari, Italy, the daughter of the late Gio-vanni and Fontina (Coletta) Sportelli. Mrs. Shappy came to New York in 1947 and married her first husband, the late Albert John Lepore of Plainville. She is survived by three sons from her first marriage, Albert John, Francis Paul and Mario Lepore. Her second marriage was to Edward John Shappy of Terryville. She is survived by a daughter, Virginia Maria Shappy; four grandchildren, Francesco Lepore, Vincenzo Lepore, Alexis Lepore and Kayla Marie Shappy; and a great-granddaughter, Madison. Also surviving is her sister, Erminia D'Accolti; a brother, Antonio Sportelli of Bari, Italy; and numerous nephews and nieces living throughout Italy. She was predeceased by a son, Patrick Shappy. Maria was a longtime resident of the Bristol, Plainville and Terryville area. She was known to many as a great friend and helper of the elderly and a special person to all who crossed her path. She was a member St. Matthew Church and Anthony Church, also the St. Anthony Rosary Society. The funeral will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. at St. Anthony Church for a Mass of Christian burial. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bristol. There are no calling hours. Dunn Funeral Home, 191 West St., Bristol is in charge of arrangements.
