Louvima E. LeJeune

March 17, 1931 — March 6, 2020

Louvima E. LeJeune passed away peacefully on Friday March 6th at her home in Winchester, CT due to complications from pneumonia. She was the wife of the late Alexander J. LeJeune and the daughter of the late Carrie (Porter) and Victor A. Meyer.

Born in West Torrington, CT on March 17, 1931, she graduated from the Torrington High School in 1948. She loved to play piano and as a youngster, she studied with Mrs. Greenwood, Mrs. Keyes and Anna Michna. Vima married her teenage sweetheart Alex and lived in West Torrington for several years before moving to Winchester to raise their nine children: Sharon Hamilton (Steve) Arlan LeJeune (Sue, Joanne) Gerry Norene (Chris, Larry) Barry LeJeune (Leona) Susan LeJeune (Neil) Carol Parent (Paul) David LeJeune (Leslie) Vicki Hester (Jim) Joan Virga (Joe). She also has twenty-one wonderful grandchildren: Jason (Jen), Joel (Kris), Andrea (Cam), Patrick, Kate, Elizabeth, Alex, Anya (Alberto), Jessica (Dan), Russell (Jill), Michael (Jess), Lauren (Pat), Paul James (Jolie), Matthew (Laura), Joshua, Andrew, Daniel (Andrea), Aaron, Timothy, Laura (Jeff) and Maria. twenty-one extra-wonderful great-grandchildren: Savannah, Gabriel, Nathaniel, Zyla, Addy, Dory, Grace, Alex, Austin, Faith, Aureal, Arlan, Elena, Ian, Ryan, Dillon, Nathan, Brendan, James, Wesley, and Sophie.

She is also survived by her sister in law, Fayne Meyer plus many special nieces and nephews.

Vima was a communicant and choir member of Winchester Congregational Church for many years and since 1989 was the organist and a member of the Colebrook Congregational Church where she played for the Sunday services, special music and rehearsals for the children and adult choirs. Until recently, she still played for the adult choir’s Sunday morning rehearsals. She also played the pump organ at the Church in the Wildwood in North Colebrook, CT during the summer and filled in as a substitute organist at the First Congregational Church in Winsted. Previously she was the organist at the Barkhamsted Congregational Church in Barkhamsted, CT.  She was also the manager of the Nutrition Program for the Winsted Senior Center, where she often played the piano for group singing. In more recent years, she played the piano for the birthday parties at the Senior Center in Colebrook. She was a talented artist, in oils and watercolors. She was a lifelong learner, taking classes with the Litchfield County Art Association of which she was a member and at Northwest Connecticut Community College where she enrolled in continuing education classes in travel and music history. She really enjoyed her special Wednesday quilting group in Colebrook and was a gifted knitter, gardener and a devout fan of the UCONN Women’s Basketball Team where people better get out of her way when the girls were playing! Vima loved going to line dancing lessons with her daughters and friends and travelled extensively to visit her friends and family throughout the U.S. and abroad. She was an expert and prize winning baker of apple pies and chocolate chip cookies. Her other highly sought after treats were gingerbread boys and Christmas rolls. Throughout the fifty-nine years she lived in Winchester she enjoyed entering her vegetables, flowers and baked goods in the Winchester Grange Fair and being a part of the Winchester Center community. Vima was always willing to lend a helping hand and volunteer whether it was with her children or grandchildren or in her community. She had a quiet, beautiful, sweet spirit and her main passion in life was spending time with her family and keeping in touch with her children and grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her brother William Meyer, her sister Jean Hurlbut, her sons, Arlan and Barry, grandsons Joshua LeJeune and Travis Hamilton.
