Lisa Traub
WINSTED - Lisa Traub, 57, passed away on Sunday, March 20, 2011 at her home at Highland Lake in Winsted, CT. She lost her battle with lung cancer at home late Sunday night. Born in Torrington, CT on Dec. 12, 1953, she attended St. Peter School, Torrington High School, and Southern Connecticut State University. With a degree in physical education, she followed her passion for swimming. A standout swimmer for the Torrington YMCA and Southern Connecticut University, she went on to coach Torrington High School's boys and girls swim teams. She coached the THS boys team that brought home NVL Championships in 1995, 1996, 2005 and 2006, as well as a State Class "L" runner-up trophy in 1996. She coached the THS girls swim team to NVL Championships in 1991 and 1992. Six of her swimmers went on to earn All-American honors, as well as three individual State Open Champions. Lisa's swimmers referred to her as an inspiration and a "pure motivator." Lisa coached her daughters and most of her nieces and nephews in swimming as well. In short, she leaves behind a legacy of swimmers, who have in some way, shape, or form, benefitted from her extraordinary coaching and teaching abilities. Lisa, along with her husband Doug, recently initiated a corporation to develop a community pool in Torrington.
Lisa and her family loved to spend time between Highland Lake, Winsted and Provincetown, Mass. She enjoyed her time together with her husband, Doug, at Rockley Beach in Barbados and sailing, boating and fishing at their waterfront locations. She had a desire for creativity, as evidenced by the multiple homes she and Doug designed and built together. She will be remembered by her zest for life and her willingness to share her thoughts with anyone who would listen.
Lisa had a passion for cooking and enjoyed entertaining, which was often shared with family and friends. She even endeavored in her own sandwich shop called "Soup Etc!" from 1985-1993 on North Elm Street in Torrington.
