Lena (Ciaschini) Tranchida, 91, of Bristol, widow of Peter S. Tranchida, died on Wednesday (November 16, 2022) at Bristol Hospital. Mrs. Tranchida was born on February 20, 1931 in New Haven and was the daughter of the late Romolo and Benelda (Givenelli) Ciaschini. She was a long time resident of New Britain and also lived in Southington and Terryville before moving to Bristol.
Lena is survived by her three sons, Peter Tranchida, Jr. and his wife Helen, Robert Tranchida and his husband Paul of Palm Desert, CA and Richard Tranchida and his partner Jason of Mellica, MA. She is also survived by three daughters, Annalee Tranchida of Bristol, Brenda Tranchida and her husband Ed of Lutherville, MD and Lisa Tranchida of Canton. Lena is also survived by her 7 grandchildren Tony Szymanski (Ali), Marcus LeDuc (Michelle), Andrew LeDuc (Melanie), Brendan LeDuc, Peter Modesitt, Kelly Tranchida and Rory O’Kane and by her 6 great-grandchildren Bailey LeDuc, Remy LeDuc, Jesse Lewis, Logan Lewis, Meadow Tranchida and Vincent Szymanski.
Lena was born and raised in New Haven, Connecticut and graduated from Commercial High School in New Haven. Her life was one devoted to her family and caring for those she loved. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother and always greeted friends and family with a smile and warmth. In the last few years, she particularly loved meeting and holding all the new great grandchildren that have come along to add to her growing family tree. Her love of her Italian heritage came through in her family meals and conversation (there was always tomato sauce and meatballs on the stove at family gatherings) and she never ever let anyone leave the house hungry. She had a sweet tooth all of her life and loved a good donut and a cup of coffee. She also had a love of fashion and clothes and always made sure she always looked well put together. In later life, Lena became an avid sports fan and loved the NY Yankees and New York Giants and enjoyed talking about her teams and watching the games (which sometimes involved frustration if she was watching her beloved Yankees!).
Lena touched everyone she met in her life including the staff at Ingraham Manor Nursing Home in Bristol, CT who cared for her during these last months. The family would like to specifically thank the team of health care professionals at Ingraham Manor who took the best care of our Mom during the last 8 months of her life. She was loved and cared for by so many people there and was the happiest when she was interacting with the staff and the residents (including her sweet roommate Elena) and looked forward to bingo, baking classes and getting her hair done on a weekly basis and being lovingly tucked in at night by the staff.
Lena was beloved by her family and anyone who interacted with her knew what a warm and caring person she was at her core and how important her family was to her. She will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be held on Monday (November 21, 2022) at 11 AM at Dunn Funeral Home, 191 West Street, Bristol. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Terryville. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 10:00 until the time of the service.
