Mr. Ferdinand "Fred" P. Contrastano, 79, of 130 Shore Dr. Waterford, passed away Friday, Aug. 5, 2011, at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London surrounded by his loving family. He was the widower of Marie Ann (Perfetto) Contrastano. Fred was born in Bristol on May 27, 1932, the son of the late Peter and Angelina (Falcone) Contrastano.
He worked for Otis elevator for several years before he retired. He was a veteran in the Korean Conflict serving in the Air Force. He was a member and a Past Commander of DAV Post 5 in Bristol, San Maurese Social Club, and St. Anthony Church.
He is survived by two sons; Peter Contrastano and his wife Carol, Anthony Pugliese and his wife Nancy. four daughters; Lisa Dubay and her husband Ken, Lynn Slocum and her husband William, Jo-Ann Hamel and her husband Robert, and Debbie Santora and her husband Ron. two sisters; Marie Maniscalco and her husband Anthony, and Angela Bellas and her husband George. five grandchildren; James, Paul, Andrew, Kristi and Shannon plus a close friend Joan Nowak. He was pre-deceased by a brother Raymond Contrastano.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony Church, Bristol. Friends may call at the Dunn Funeral Home 191 West St. Bristol on Tuesday from 9 to 10 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, in Bristol.
