Dr. Dorothy (Kratka) Schneider, 73, of Novato CA., died April 7, 2008 at Novato Community Hospital. She was the wife of Warren A. Schneider.
She was born in New Britain, CT on April 29, 1934, the daughter of the late Joseph M. and Meri Catherine (Stifel) Kratka. She received her R.N. from St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing, Hartford, B.S.N. from Columbia University, M.S.W., from Fordham University and an Ed.D. in Counseling, Psychology from University of San Francisco.
She was an instructor of Public Health Nursing at the University of Connecticut., a nurse at a mission clinic in Lupasa, Tanzania, the Chief Psychiatric Social Worker at Knickerbocker Hospital, New York City, The Coordinator of Social Services at The Rockefeller University Hospital, New York City, an Assistant Professor at Cal State University, Sacramento, a member of the Board of Directors at Catholic Charities for the Aging, San Francisco. She maintained a private psychotherapy practice in Corte Madera and Novato, California, and was a critical case worker on a mental health emergency response team. She was a member of the Marin County Civil Grand Jury 1999-2000. She earned inclusion in Who's Who in 1997.
Besides her husband, she is survived by a sister Margaret and her husband Andrew DeVito of Ocala, FL and a brother in-law Joseph Dess of Bristol, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by a sister, Ann Dess.
The Funeral will be held on Tuesday at 9:00 AM from Dunn Funeral Home 191 West. St., Bristol thence to St. Gregory Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, New Britain. Friends may call the funeral home on Monday from 5 to 7 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations to your favorite charity would be appreciated.
