Alberta (Birdie) C. Kelley
Alberta (Birdie) C. Kelley, 82, of Bristol died gracefully June 5, 2008, at Bristol Hospital, after a long illness. She was the widow of Mark H. Kelley. Born April 6, 1926, in Ashland, Maine, she was a daughter of the late Andrew and Alice (Perkins) McLellan. She was employed at Bristol Hospital from where she retired. Also, during WWII she was employed as a welder at Bath Ironworks in Bath, Maine, serving her country in the building of battleships. Birdie was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt to many, sharing her warmth and love from one generation to another. She leaves behind a wonderful legacy. Birdie is survived by her children, Terry Kelley and his wife, Joan, of England, Wayne (Mike) Kelley and his wife, Patti, of Thomaston, John Kelley and his wife, Liz, of Plymouth, Mass.; and step-daughter, Clarice (Jo) Wolfe of California. She also is survived by her brother Elwin (Det) McLellan of Bristol; and two sisters, Pauline Turick of Torrington and Alfreda O'Donal of Hartford; and her grandchildren, the joy of her life, survive her, Jennifer, Caroline, Shannon, Scott, Michael, Lorraine, Mark and Jesse. She was predeceased by her son Mark (Pat) Kelley and stepson Daniel Kelley. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Barnes Memorial Chapel (West Cemetery). Friends may call at Dunn Funeral Home, 191 West St., Bristol, Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. Burial will be in West Cemetery.
