Albert J. Canu, 69, of 55 Gaylord St., Bristol, passed away Friday, Oct. 24, 2008, at Bristol Hospital. Albert was born in Port Washington, Long Island, N.Y., Sept. 9, 1939, the son of the late Anthony J. and Karolina (Mercado) Canu. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He worked at New Departure many years before he retired. He is survived by two sons, Anthony and Chris Canu; three grandchildren, Justin, Matt and Tatum; two nephews, Kevin and Daryl LaColla; and two nieces, Catherine Wellema and her husband, Harold, and Carrie Watkings, Plus he leaves good friends, Angela Fabrizo and John Bartucca. He was predeceased by two brothers, Anthony and John Canu, and a sister, Eleanor LaColla. Albert wishes that a memorial service will be held at a later date. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Dunn Funeral Home, 191 West St., Bristol, is in charge of the arrangements.
